A type of amenorrhea, which refers to the cessation of menstrual periods, can arise due to significant weight loss, regardless of whether it is directly associated with insufficient food intake. In certain instances, deliberate and extreme weight loss can be the cause. The absence of menstrual cycles transpires as the reduction in body fat disrupts the balance of the female sex hormone estrogen.
