Dentures

An appliance used as an artificial or prosthetic replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It does not include crowns, dental abutments, nor artificial teeth.

A set of false teeth, fixed to a device which fits inside the mouth.

Manufactured, removable replacement for one or more natural teeth; also called plate.

An artificial replacement for missing natural teeth and adjacent tissues in the upper jaw, the lower jaw, or both. Dentures are made of a strong acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Partial dentures replace one or several missing permanent teeth, and a full denture (false teeth) replaces all the teeth. Saving the permanent teeth may be impossible if a person has serious periodontal disease or Severe tooth decay, although some teeth can be saved by a root canal treatment and dental crown.

A removable prosthesis, made partially or wholly of plastic, bearing one or more false teeth. A full denture replaces all the teeth in one jaw and is usually made from synthetic resins. A partial denture fills the gap or gaps between remaining teeth: it may be of metal (either chrome-cobalt or gold alloys) in the form of a skeleton of bars, bearing the teeth. This form allows more of the gums and palate to be left uncovered than the plate form. Old ill-fitting dentures may cause denture hyperplasia, an overgrowth of fibrous tissue and mucous membrane into the spaces between the denture and the gum.

A plate or frame bearing false teeth. It may be complete (replacing all the teeth in one jaw) or partial.

A partial or complete set of artificial teeth set in appropriate plastic materials to substitute for the natural dentition and related tissues.

A denture is a dental appliance designed to replace missing natural teeth. It typically consists of a base made of metal and/or acrylic (hard plastic), which is fitted with acrylic teeth. These artificial teeth are customized to resemble the person’s original teeth. Denture baseplates, created from impressions taken from the upper and lower gums, are carefully crafted to ensure a precise fit within the mouth.

A collection of prosthetic teeth or the complete set of natural teeth.
