Deafferentation syndrome, alternatively known as thalamic syndrome or central pain syndrome, is a rare neurological disorder characterized by damage to the thalamus. The thalamus plays a crucial role in processing sensory information within the brain.
The primary symptom of deafferentation syndrome is the presence of intense and debilitating pain. This pain may be accompanied by additional abnormalities, including loss of sensation or a sensation of “crawling” on the skin.
