Extended a psychotherapy, counseling, and education in a nonresidential setting. Day treatment programs are used for a wide variety of emotional, psychological, and neurological problems, such as alcohol and substance abuse, anxiety disorders, and stroke. Day treatment may also be recommended for people with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson disease, seizure disorders, mood disorders (such as depression, manic-depressive illness, and dysthymia), physical and sexual abuse, and eating disorders. Most day treatment programs focus on helping people learn self-management and develop independent living skills. These programs also involve families in treatment and teach them to serve as advocates for family members in need of care.
