Dander refers to the minuscule scales that are naturally shed from the skin, hair, or feathers of animals. In households, dander from both humans and pets can be found floating in the air or settling on surfaces, contributing to a significant portion of household dust. For some individuals, exposure to animal dander can trigger allergic reactions. Allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever, and asthma symptoms may manifest if these individuals inhale the dander scales. Such allergic responses can include nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, as well as respiratory difficulties. Managing exposure to animal dander, implementing proper cleaning measures, and seeking appropriate medical care are important steps in addressing and mitigating the symptoms associated with allergies to animal dander.
