Cystathioninuria

A high level of cystathionine in the urine caused by a mutation in the gene for cystathionase which catalyzes the production of cysteine from cystathionine.

A hereditary disease caused by a deficiency of the enzyme important in metabolizing cystathionine, resulting in mental retardation, thrombocytopenia, and acidosis.
