Corynebacterium

A genus of bacteria which includes the bacterium which causes diphtheria.

A genus of Gram-positive, mostly aerobic, nonmotile rodlike bacteria that frequently bear club-shaped swellings. Many species cause disease in man, domestic animals, birds, and plants; some are found in dairy products. The species C. diphtheriae (Klebs-Loffler bacillus), which occurs in three types, gravis, intermedius, and mitis, is the causative organism of diphtheria, producing a powerful exotoxin that is harmful to heart and nerve tissue.

A genus of gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile bacilli of the family Corynebacteriaceae. Some are part of normal skin flora; others are pathogens for domestic animals, birds, and reptiles.

Corynebacteria, a type of rod-shaped bacteria belonging to the gram-positive category, are responsible for causing diseases in both humans and domestic animals. In humans, they are notably associated with diphtheria, whereas in domestic animals and birds, they can induce various types of infections.
