Corpus spongiosum

A spongy body in the penis that contains a network of blood vessels and nerves.


The part of the penis round the urethra, forming the glans.


Erectile tissue that becomes engorged with blood during sexual arousal, causing the penis to become firm and erect; this tissue is located along the underside of the penis.


The blood sinus that surrounds the urethra of the male. Together with the corpora cavernosa, it forms the erectile tissue of the penis. It is expanded at the base of the penis to form the urethral bulb and at the tip to form the glans penis.
