Coring

The operative removal of a plug or wedge of tissue (e.g., with a hollow surgical instrument).

To remove the central membranes, seeds, and other unwanted parts from apples, pears, and other fruits, the fruit is typically quartered and the core is cut out. Alternatively, a special corer tool can be used on the whole fruit to remove these parts. Additionally, the term “coring” can also refer to the process of removing the tough central membrane from kidneys.
