It refers to a radiologic imaging technique that employs computer processing to produce a detailed image of tissue density within a patient’s body, presenting a “slice” as thin as 1-10 mm. These images are spaced at intervals of 0.5-1 cm. It allows for the reconstruction of cross-sectional anatomy in multiple planes without subjecting the patient to additional radiation. This imaging modality is commonly known as computerized axial tomography (CAT) or computerized transaxial tomography (CTAT).
