Columella

Persistent central axis around which the fruit locules are arranged.


The axis to which the carpels of a compound fruit are attached.


A part resembling a small column. For example, the columella cochleae (modiolus) is the central pillar of the cochlea, around which the spiral cochlear canal winds. The columella nasi is the anterior part of the nasal septum.


The narrow band of skin extending from the nasal tip to the upper lip, serving as a demarcation between the nostrils.
