Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is a condition resulting from damage to the cranial nerves responsible for controlling the muscles in the tongue and throat. It commonly occurs due to a head injury or compression of the nerves caused by a tumor. This syndrome leads to paralysis of the muscles on one side of the tongue, palate, throat, larynx (voice box), and neck. While there is no cure for this condition, the underlying cause is treated whenever possible.
