Surgical removal of the clitoris.


Removal of the clitoris. Clitoridectomy has been used for centuries in many countries, but is currently only used as part of ritual female circumcision in some African countries and in parts of Asia. Although clitoridectomy was used in some Western countries as a brutal and ineffective remedy for masturbation and promiscuity in the 19th century, it is not performed in the West today except in cases of cancer of the vulva.


A surgical procedure involving the removal of the clitoris, along with potentially some of the adjacent labial tissue at the vaginal opening.
