Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia

This form of leukemia arises from the excessive growth of mature lymphocytes (white blood cells responsible for combating infections and harmful cells). While there is no definitive cure for this condition, it doesn’t always result in fatality. The exact cause remains unidentified.

Signs gradually emerge over an extended period, often spanning several years. These could include an increase in the size of the liver, spleen, and lymph nodes, persistent elevated body temperature, as well as night sweats. Frequent infections and instances of anemia are also prevalent.

Diagnosis is established through blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy. In numerous mild instances, treatment is unnecessary. However, if symptoms become bothersome, drug therapy is initiated, frequently involving the use of chlorambucil.
