Chromotherapy

The use of colored light to treat disease.

Often termed Color Therapy, a type of alternative medicine that uses color as a treatment for various ailments. Usually part of a general category of healing called reflexology, color is used sometimes purely by itself and sometimes in conjunction with such enhancers as selected musical sounds or the eating of certain naturally colored foods. Reflexologists who advocate color therapy tell us that to remain vibrantly healthy the body’s energy requires replenishment from the sun’s energy in its pure form. Imbalances occur in specific parts of our bodies when one or more colors are not vibrating to their full capacity. Reflexology opens the body to receive the full spectrum of color for balance to be reestablished.

Practitioners believe that Color Therapy is a very ancient method of healing, one used by the inhabitants of the vanished continent of Atlantis and also practiced by the Egyptians in their specially constructed “healing rooms.” In the early 19th century, following Goethe’s color theory, many in Germany and Russia thought that color had mystical powers. Both Wassily Kandinsky and Rudolf steiner thought that color had both a physical and psychological effect that was highly therapeutic. With the rise of scientific medicine, these ideas fell out of favor, and chromotherapy was rarely used.
