Certified coding specialist

A credential which requires successfully meeting the appropriate requirements and passing the examination from the Council on Certification (COC) of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The credential indicates that the candidate is “skilled beyond the entry-level in analyzing and sequencing codes in accordance with the ICD-9-CM and CPT classification systems. The individual is also skilled in reporting diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement purposes, medical research, and other health information uses”.
