  • Warm ischemia

    The absence of blood flow to a body part or organ intended for transplantation before its removal from a cadaveric donor.  

  • Whole bowel irrigation

    The administration of large volumes of a nonabsorbable fluid to remove potentially hazardous contents from the gastrointestinal tract. It is used to prepare some patients for bowel surgery and to decontaminate the gut after overdose.

    Anemic infarct.

    The progressive loss of protective antibodies against an antigen or disease that occurs with the passage of time. It is a crucial factor in vaccination.

    An active humidification system in which gas flow is exposed to a material saturated with water.

    A deformity of the hand in which the tips of the thumb and first finger are touching and the other fingers are flexed as if holding a writing instrument. This is seen in Parkinson’s disease.

    A gait in which the feet are wide apart and the walk resembles that of a duck. It occurs in coxa vara and double congenital hip displacement when lordosis is present.
