Whispering resonance

Window resection
Resection of a portion of the nasal septum after reflection of a flap of mucous membrane.

Wedge resection
Surgical removal of a triangular-shaped piece of tissue (e.g., from the lung, gastrointestinal tract, uterus, ovary, or other organs). Wedge resection is often used to remove malignant tissue.

Wet purpura
A blister filled with blood; colloquially, a blood blister.

Waterhammer pulse
A pulse with a powerful upstroke and then sudden disappearance; a hallmark of aortic regurgitation.

Wood pulp
A soft form of cellulose, derived from wood or cotton, used as a food additive. Humans cannot digest it.

White pulp
The portion of splenic pulp, consisting of T and B lymphocytes, that forms sheaths around arteries. The sheaths are thickest around the large arteries and grow progressively thinner as the arteries progress into the spleen.
