  • Sensitise

    To make someone sensitive to a drug or allergen.  

  • Sensitisation

    The process of making a person sensitive to something. An unexpected reaction to an allergen or to a drug, caused by the presence of antibodies which were created when the person was exposed to the drug or allergen in the past.  

  • Sensible perspiration

    Drops of sweat which can be seen on the skin, secreted by the sweat glands. Perspiration that forms moisture on the skin.  

  • Sensible

    Showing common sense or good judgment. Able to be detected by the senses. Capable of being perceived by the senses; perceptible.  

  • Sensibility

    The ability to detect and interpret sensations. Ability to be affected by changes in the environment. The ability to be affected by, and respond to, changes in the surroundings. Sensibility is a characteristic of cells of the nervous system. The capacity to receive and respond to stimuli.  

  • Senior

    Older than another person or other people. Holding a more important position than others.  

  • Senile cataract

    A cataract which occurs in an elderly person.  

  • Sengstaken tube

    A tube with a balloon, which is passed through the mouth into the oesophagus to stop oesophageal bleeding [After Robert William Sengstaken (b. 1923), US surgeon].

    Half solid and half liquid.
