  • Maximum bite force

    The greatest load a patient can generate by intentionally biting down on an indicating device. This measurement may influence prosthetic design, especially if the patient can develop extreme loads.  

  • Maximal intercuspal position

    Sometimes referred to as centric occlusion, this is the best fit of the upper teeth to the lower teeth regardless of the position of the mandibular condyle. Called also maximal intercuspation. Compare: Centric occlusion.

    Position that results in maximal tooth contact between the mandibular and maxillary dental arches when the jaws are in a closed position.  

  • Maxillomandibular relationship record

    A registration of any position of the mandible with respect to the maxillae. These records often capture the vertical, horizontal, and oblique planes of relationship.

    The subspecialty of dental prosthodontics concerned with the prosthetic replacement or reconstruction of lost stomatognathic and/or craniofacial structures with fixed or removable prostheses.  

  • Maxillofacial prosthetic adhesive

    A material used to hold or adhere an external facial appliance or device to the skin and its accompanying structures adjacent to the margins of an anatomic defect for the purpose of preventing its dislodgement during normal function.  

  • Maxillofacial prosthesis

    Restoration replacing oral, stomatognathic, or craniofacial structures with a fixed or removable prosthesis. Support and/or retention is provided by natural teeth and supporting tissues, endosseous implants, or adhesives. The repair and artificial replacement of the face and jaw missing because of disease or injury.
