  • Intravenous fluorescein angiography

    The optimal diagnostic test to evaluate the vascular status of the retina and choroid. Fluorescein dye is injected into an arm vein and sequential photographs are taken of the fundus as the dye circulates at different time intervals.  

  • Intraretinal microvascular abnormalities

    Retinal vascular changes, including dilated tortuous retinal capillaries, dot and blot hemorrhages, microaneurysms, and capillary loss seen in diabetic retinopathy.  

  • Intrapartal

    The period from the onset of labor to its termination, marked by delivery of the placenta.  

  • Intraparietal

    Within the parietal lobe of the cerebrum.  

  • Intraosseous injector

    A device that inserts a needle into the bone marrow. It is used in emergency resuscitation to gain access to the central circulation of a patient with severely low blood pressure caused by cardiogenic arrest, cardiogenic shock, diarrhea, hemorrhage, sepsis, or vomiting.  

  • Intraoperative quick assay of intact parathyroid hormone

    A laboratory test to check for decrease in parathyroid hormone levels of more than 50% within 10 min of resection of a parathyroid adenoma. The test is used to confirm that a presumptive parathyroid tumor removed surgically is the cause of a patient’s hyperparathyroidism.

    A network of computers exclusive to an enterprise that uses the World Wide Web and other Internet technologies to share company information and computing resources among employees.  

  • Intramastoiditis

    An inflammation of the antrum and mastoid process.  

  • Intralocular

    Within the cavity of any structure.  

  • Intraligamentary

    Within the folds of a ligament; usually used in referring to fibroid tumors or cysts of the ovary that have grown within the broad ligament.
