  • Fibrillary tremor

    A tremor caused by consecutive contractions of separate muscular fibrillae rather than of a muscle or muscles.  

  • Familial tremor

    A tremor indistinguishable from essential tremor in its clinical manifestation. Unlike essential tremor, it is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait.  

  • Fat transplantation

    In cosmetic surgery, the movement of adipose tissue from one body site to another to augment structure, change body contours, or reduce skin wrinkling.  

  • Follicular tonsillitis

    Inflammation of the follicles on the surface of the tonsil, which become filled with pus.  

  • Fern-leaf tongue

    A tongue possessing a prominent central furrow and lateral branches.  

  • Fanning of toe

    Spreading of toes, especially when the sole is stroked.  

  • Fat tide

    Increased fat in the lymph and blood after a fatty meal.  

  • Fahrenheit thermometer

    A thermometric scale used in English-speaking countries, in which the boiling point is 212°F and the freezing point is 32°F. A thermometer that divides the range between the freezing and boiling points of water into 180 degrees, with the freezing point marked as 32 degrees and the boiling point as 212 degrees.  

  • Five elements theory

    A fundamental premise in traditional Chinese medicine and some branches of alternative medicine that holds that illness results from imbalances in these elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. A similar concept in ancient Western and medieval medicine held that diseases resulted from imbalances in four elements: earth, air, fire, and water.
