  • Certified Healthcare Executive

    A credential awarded by the Americal College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) to members who meet certain requirements, but who are not yet ready for Fellowship in the College. This credential may be used after the individual’s name until such time as Fellowship status is achieved, after which FACHE replaces it.

  • Certified

    A term applied to an individual, facility, or device after a certifying body has conducted its testing, and declared that the subject has met the standards, and is entitled to certification. Being certified provides a credential.  

  • Certification examination

    An examination which is given for the purpose of determining the applicant’s qualification for the certification sought.

    A certificate, issued by a governmental or planning agency, which approves the hospital’s contention that it needs a given facility or service (for example, open heart surgery).   • Centralized services

    Services which are carried out from a single location, in an effort to improve efficiency, reduce cost, or both.  

  • Central service department

    The hospital department which provides sterile medical and surgical instruments and supplies. The pharmacy is not a part of CS.  

  • Central processing

    In hospital administration, a term which refers to the recycling of reusable items used in patient care (surgical instruments, for example), their collection, cleaning, sterilization, and repackaging. These are functions of the central service department (CS).

    Legal grounds upon which to base a lawsuit. A cause of action may be based upon breach of a contract, commission of a tort, violation of a statute, or violation of a constitutional right.
