  • Bowel bypass syndrome

    A febrile illness occurring after intestinal bypass surgery for morbidly obese patients. Affected patients typically report aching joints and muscles, and have pustules and papules on the arms, legs, and or chest.

    A surgically produced buttonhole like opening in a membrane.

    In chemistry, the holding in combination of one molecule by another.  

  • Bouin’s fluid

    A fixative for embryological and histological tissue. It consists of formaldehyde, glacial acetic acid, trinitrophenol, and water.  

  • Bouchard’s nodes

    Bony enlargements or nodules, located at the proximal interphalangeal joints, that result from osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease. In osteoarthritis, bony enlargement of the proximal interphalangeal joints. In individuals with osteoarthritis, a condition affecting the joints, a bony protrusion known as a “swelling” can develop on the middle joint of the finger.  

  • Botulinic acid

    A toxin found in putrid sausage.  

  • Botulin

    The protein neurotoxin that causes the clinical disease botulism. It may be used to efface skin wrinkles, and to treat neurological conditions such as torticollis.
