  • Bill of heath

    A public health certificate stating that passengers on a public conveyance or ship are free of infectious disease.  

  • Built up handle

    The portion of an implement that has been increased in diameter to accommodate its use by persons with limited or weak grasp.  

  • Benediction hand

    Condition of the hand in which there is flexion of some of the fingers, especially of the terminal phalanges. The hand at the wrist may be extended. The condition may be caused by paralysis of the ulnar and median nerves.  

  • Burrowing hair

    A hair that grows horizontally under the skin, causing a foreign body reaction.  

  • Beaded hair

    Swellings and constrictions in the hair shaft caused by a developmental defect known as monilethrix.  

  • Bamboo hair

    Sparse, brittle hair with bamboo-like nodes. These apparent nodes are actually partial fractures of the hair shaft, caused by an atrophic condition of the hair. Also called trichorrhexis nodosa.  

  • Branchial groove

    A groove in the embryo that is lined with ectoderm and lies between two branchial arches.  

  • Bicipital groove

    The groove for the long tendon of the biceps brachii located on the anterior surface of the humerus.  

  • Brilliant green

    A derivative of malachite green, used in staining bacteria.  

  • Beta granule

    An azurophil granule found in beta cells of the hypophysis or islets of Langerhans of the pancreas that stains with both acid and basic dyes.
