Carrageen

Purplish-brown edible seaweed from the Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America. Carrageen also known as Carragheen, Pearlmoss, and Irish Moss.


Irish moss; dried red alga, Chondrus crispus, from which the substance carrageenan, or carragheenan, is obtained. It is used as a demulcent and thickening agent in medicines and foods.
