Carotid

From the Greek word meaning to plunge into deep sleep, carotid artery.


Either of the two large arteries in the neck which supply blood to the head.


To the right and left common carotid arteries, which form the principal blood supply to the head and neck. The left arises directly from the aortic arch and the right from the brachiocephalic artery. Each of these two arteries divides to form external and internal carotid arteries.


The main artery on either side of the neck that transports blood from the heart to the brain and the tissues of the head and neck.
