Caliper splint

An orthopedic appliance made of plastic or metal used to support a weakened lower arm or leg.

An orthopedic apparatus that rectifies or governs a distorted lower limb or provides assistance to a weakened leg caused by a muscular ailment, granting mobility to an individual affected by such condition to assume an upright position and engage in ambulation. For instance, an individual who has lost the capability to dorsiflex the foot, leading to the dragging of toes on the ground during each step, can be equipped with a supportive device that permanently maintains the foot perpendicular to the leg, thereby facilitating the act of walking.

A caliper splint encompasses one or two perpendicular metallic rods affixed to leather or metallic loops that are donned around the impacted extremity. A splint that extends slightly beneath the knee proves ample for managing the alignment of the ankle. Lengthier splints can be articulated to enable flexion and extension of the knee.
