Bulb

Underground storage organ; the bud(s) enclosed by fleshy scale leaves and/or leaf bases.

A short vertical, underground shoot that has modified leaves or thickened leaf bases prominently developed as food-storage organs.

Modified short, underground stem surrounded by a row of fleshy leaves with thickened bases (e.g., Onion).

Cluster of fleshy storage leaves gathered tightly together on a short stem axis, forming what is called an “underground organ”; an onion is an example.

An upright series of overlapping leaf bases attached to a small basal stem, as in the onion.

An underground storage organ, usually rounded, made up of leaflike layers, like an onion.

An underground swelling at the base of a plant, eg, in a Daffodil, made up of overlapping layers of scales (which are actually fleshy leaf-bases).

An underground (usually) organ, consisting of a reduced stem (the base plate) surrounded by modified leaves that store food for the plant’s dormancy. The onion is the classic example.

An underground plant part derived from a short, usually rounded shoot that is covered with scales or modified leaves.

A round part at the end of an organ or bone.

A (usually) underground storage organ consisting of swollen leaf bases, each encircling the next inner one, as in an onion, or consisting of overlapping scales, as in liliums. The flowering stem of bulbous plants grows up through the middle of the bulb.

Any rounded structure or a rounded expansion at the end of an organ or part.

An underground storage organ with fleshy leaves, the whole enclosing next year’s bud.

Specialized, fleshy underground buds used for storage and reproduction.
