Bowleg

Abnormal bending outward of the leg from the knee downward, with a gap between the knees; it is often the result of nutritional disorder or deficiency (e.g., insufficient vitamin D) but is sometimes caused by disease (e.g., arthritis). It is also called bandy leg.

Genu varum, commonly known as bowlegs, refers to the outward curving of the leg bones, leading to a noticeable separation of the knees when the feet are together. Bowlegs are frequently observed in very young children and are considered a normal part of their development. In most cases, the curvature of the legs gradually corrects itself as the child grows older. However, if the bowing is severe, affects only one side, or persists beyond the age of three, it is advisable to seek medical consultation. Surgical intervention may be necessary in such cases. It is important to note that in rare instances, leg deformities can be attributed to bone disorders, particularly rickets, which is caused by vitamin D deficiency in children.

A condition where the legs curve outward and the knees are spaced apart, also known as genu varum.
