Bone age

Age determined by comparison of a person’s bone development, as shown on X rays, with that of average persons of the same chronological age.

An estimate of biological age based on radiological studies of the developmental stage of ossification centers of the long bones of the extremities.

Bone age serves as a means to evaluate the physical maturation of children by assessing their skeletal development. This assessment involves the utilization of X-rays, which provide insights into the extent of bone growth in specific areas of the body. By examining these X-rays, healthcare professionals can determine the individual’s bone age.
