Blood chemistry

The determination of the quantities or levels of various chemicals in the blood. For each chemical, such as sugar (glucose) or cholesterol, there is a range of quantity (amount per unit of blood volume) which is found in the normal, well individual. Amounts of the chemical above or below the normal range are associated with various disease states and disturbances in physiology. Blood chemistry determinations are made in one portion of the clinical laboratory.
