One of the most conservative organizations promoting creationism. The Bible Science Association (BSA) was founded in 1963 by Walter Lang, a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The organization still draws much of its support from that denomination. Basing its arguments on a literal interpretation of Genesis, the organization supports the idea of a young Earth (less than 10,000 years) and literal flood. In the mid 1960s, BSA started publishing articles arguing for geocentrism, the idea that the Earth is stationary and the solar system revolves around it. The organization has proved one of the most effective at mass distribution of creationist literature and the mobilizing of creationists to the cause. In the early 1990s, 27,000 people received the Bible Science Newsletter, the publication of the group.
The BSA publishes creationist literature for mass distribution as well as a set of reading books for children and youth. It sponsors a variety of seminars, tours, and meetings in addition to its biennial National Creation Conference.
