Balsam

Resin mixed with volatile oil.


An aromatic resin produced by a tree, for example balsam of Peru and balsam of Tolu, which contain appreciable amounts of benzoic acid, cinnamic acid, or both, or their esters.


The fragrant gum or sap of a plant or tree. A soothing ointment.


A resinous semi-solid mass or viscous liquid exuded from a plant, which can be either a pathological or physiological product. A “true” balsam is characterized by its high content of benzoic acid, benzoates cinnamic acid, or cinnamates.
