  • Suspended animation

    Temporary cessation of vital functions with loss of consciousness; state of apparent death.    

  • Animation

    State of being alive or active.  

  • Warm blooded animal

    An animal whose body temperature remains constant regardless of the temperature of the environment; as opposed to a cold-blooded animal.  

  • Control animal

    In medical research involving the use of animals, an animal that is not treated, but is housed and cared for under the same conditions as the treated animal(s).  

  • Cold blooded animal

    An animal whose body temperature varies according to the temperature of the environment.  

  • Animal

    A living organism that requires oxygen and organic foods, is incapable of photosynthesis, has limited growth, and is capable of voluntary movement and sensation.  

  • Anilism

    Chronic aniline poisoning. Findings include intermittent heart block, muscular weakness, cyanosis, and dizziness or vertigo.  

  • Anilingus

    Oral stimulation of the anus with the tongue or lips.  

  • Aniline

    The simplest aromatic amine, C6H7N; an oily liquid derived from benzene. It is used in the manufacture of medical and industrial dyes. Aniline has antipyretic action but is too toxic to use as a medicine.  

  • Anhydride

    A compound formed by removal of water from a substance, especially from an acid.
