Aphthosis
Any condition characterized by aphthae.

Aphthongia
Inability to speak due to spasm of muscles controlling speech.

A silent letter or combination of letters in a written word.

Aphrasia
Inability to speak or understand phrases. The inability to speak in sustained sentences or phrases, often stemming from a nervous disorder.

A subjective visual perception of darkness or of a shadow.

Spastic aphonia
Aphonia resulting from spasm of the vocal muscles, especially that initiated by efforts to speak.

Postoperative aphonia
Loss of speech following laryngectomy. Restoration of speech is accomplished with speech synthesizers and speech therapy.

Aphonia due to somatoform disorders. There is no organic defect.
