  • Arctium lappa

    A member of the aster family, promoted as a natural diuretic and laxative. It is also known as  burdock, lappa, and happy major.  

  • Arctation

    Stricture of any canal opening.  

  • Arch width

    The measured distance between the canines, bicuspids, and the first molars. These distances establish the shape and size of the dental arch.  

  • Archive

    A database; a bank of stored information.  

  • Architis

    Inflammation of the anus; proctitis.  

  • Archicerebellum

    The flocculonodular lobe of the cerebellum. It is tied into the vestibular system and is the phylogenetically oldest segment of the cerebellum.  

  • Archaebacteria

    A group of single-celled organisms, classified by some microbiologists as a type of bacteria and by others as a separate kingdom or domain of life. Unlike Eubacteria, they lack peptidoglycans in their cell walls. Their ribosomal RNA base sequences also differ from those found in Eubacteria.   • Transverse arch

    The transverse arch of the foot formed by the navicular, cuboid, cuneiform, and metatarsal bones.  

  • Supraorbital arch

    A bony arch formed by the upper margin of the orbit.  

  • Superior tarsal arch

    The arch of the median palpebral artery that supplies the upper eyelid.
