Figure-ground discrimination
The ability to see the outline of an object as distinct from visually competing background stimuli. This ability is often impaired following central nervous system damage.

Discrete analysis
An automated methodology in which samples are held in separate containers to be assayed. In a continuous flow system, all samples flow through the same tubing.

A hospital unit where patients are held pending their release from emergency departments, urgent care settings, wards, or short-stay units. The lounge makes acute patient care resources available for active use and streamlines patient throughput.
