  • Driver rehabilitation therapist

    A specialist who evaluates and provides training to increase driving independence in persons with physical, cognitive, or perceptual deficits. A trained expert in driver rehabilitation is known as a certified driver rehabilitation specialist (CDRS).  

  • Drive control

    One of various devices and adapted equipment, including hand or foot controls, for modifying a motor vehicle for use by persons with physical disability.  

  • Nasal drip

    A method of administering fluid slowly to dehydrated babies by means of a catheter with one end placed through the nose into the esophagus.  

  • Murphy drip

    Slow rectal instillation of a fluid drop by drop.  

  • Gravity drip

    Infusion of an intravenous solution by hanging the source of the solution above the patient and controlling the rate of flow with a manually operated clamp.  

  • Genetic dressing

    The chance variation of genetic frequency, seen most often in a small population.  

  • Antigenic drift

    A minor change in the protein marker or antigen on an organism. Small changes in the antigenic surface markers of some microorganisms (such as the influenza virus) occur from year to year. Vaccinations against the virus are adapted annually to combat these changes and prevent epidemic in fection.  

  • Dressing stick

    An assistive device designed to permit independent dressing by persons with limited motion. Also called dressing wand.  

  • Wet-to-dry dressing

    A dressing consisting of gauze moistened with prescribed solution (e.g., sterile saline) applied directly and conforming to the wound and covered with dry gauze pads and a bandage. Gentle removal of the dressing after it has dried provides some degree of debridement of the wound; the process is then repeated at intervals.  

  • Water dressing

    A dressing consisting of gauze, cotton, or similar material that is kept wet by the application of sterilized water.
