Extracellular enzyme
An enzyme that acts outside the cell that produces it.

Decarboxylating enzyme
An enzyme, such as carboxylase, that separates carbon dioxide from organic acids.

Debranching enzyme
An enzyme, dextrin-1-6-glucosidase, that removes a carbohydrate unit from molecules that contain short carbohydrate units attached as side chains.

Deamidizing enzyme
An enzyme that splits amine off amino acid compounds.

Coagulating enzyme
An enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of soluble proteins into insoluble ones.

Brush border enzymes
An enzyme produced by the cells of the villi and microvilli (brush border) lining the small intestine.

Branching enzymes
An enzyme, called a glycosyltransferase, that transfers a carbohydrate unit from one molecule to another.

Bacterial enzymes
An enzyme produced by bacteria; many have specific, toxic effects on humans.

An enzyme that produces autolysis, or cell digestion.
