  • Ingrown nail

    Growth of the nail edge into the soft tissue, causing inflammation and sometimes an abscess. Ingrown nails may be due to improper paring of the nails or pressure on a nail edge from improperly fitted shoes. In many cases, this condition may be prevented by cutting the nails straight across.  

  • Habit deformity nail

    Disruption of the nail surface by the habit of abrading or stroking that area. This produces a wavy or washboard-like nail surface.  

  • Fungal infection of nail

    Infection of a nail by one of a number of fungi. Systemic therapy with antifungal drugs may eradicate the infection.  

  • Eggshell nail

    A condition in which the nail plate is soft and semitransparent, bends easily, and splits at the end. The condition is associated with arthritis, peripheral neuritis, leprosy, and hemiplegia. It may be the only visible sign of late syphilis.  

  • Nagi disablement model

    A descriptive scheme that describes the progression from pathology or disease to disability. The components are pathology, impairment, functional limitation, and disability. Physical therapists use a modification of this model to make diagnoses and to help direct intervention.  

  • Myzorhynchus

    Subgenus of anopheline mosquitoes. Some species transmit malarial parasites.  

  • Myzomyia

    Subgenus of anopheline mosquitoes. Some species transmit malarial parasites.    

  • Myxosporidia

    Parasitic sporozoans most commonly found in the epithelial cells of lower vertebrates.  

  • Myxospore

    A spore embedded in a gelatinous mass; seen in some fungi and protozoa.  

  • Myxopapilloma

    A tumor containing myxomatous and papillomatous components,
