Author: Glossary

  • Neutrophilic

    Staining readily with neutral dyes.

  • Neutrophilia

Increase in the number of neutrophils in the blood (e.g., as a result of inflammation, infection, corticosteroid drugs, or malignancies). An unusually high number of neutrophil cells in the bloodstream.

  • Neutron capture analysis

The use of the ability of a neutron to be absorbed (captured) by an atomic nucleus to detect the presence of various substances.

  • Neutroclusion

A state in which the anteroposterior occlusal positions of the teeth or the mesiodistal positions are normal but malocclusion of other teeth exists.

  • Neutral reaction

In chemistry, a reaction indicating the absence of acid or alkaline properties; expressed as pH 7.0. A response that shows neither acidity nor alkalinity, represented as a pH of 7.

  • Neutralization test

A test of the ability of an antibody to neutralize the effects of an antigen.

  • Neutral point

A point on the pH scale (pH 7.0) that represents neutrality (i.e., the solution is neither acid or alkaline in reaction).

  • Neurulation

Formation of the neural plate in the embryo and the development and closure of the neural tube.

  • Neurula

The stage in the development of an embryo (especially amphibian embryos) during which the neural plate develops and axial embryonic nervous structures are elaborated.

  • Neurovirus

Virus that has been modified by its growth in nervous tissue and used in preparing vaccines.
