  • Occipitofrontal

    Concerning the occiput and the forehead. Relating to both the occiput and the forehead, or to the occiput and the frontal lobes of the brain.  

  • Occipitocervical

    Concerning the occiput and the neck.  

  • Occipitoatloid

    Concerning the occipital and atlas hones.  

  • Occipitalization

    Fusion of the atlas and occipital bones.  

  • Occipitalis

    The posterior portion of the occipitofrontalis muscle at the back of the head. Back of the epicranius; muscle that draws the scalp backward.  

  • Occipital area

    The back of the head, the portion of the skull made of the occipital bone, and the part of the cerebrum below the occipital bone.  

  • Occam’s razor

    The concept that the simplest explanation for a phenomenon is the best one, that is, “what can be done with fewer (assumptions) is done in vain with more.” Philosophical rule first put forth by the medieval English scholar William of Occam or Ockham (c. 1285-1349). “Occam’s Razor,” sometimes called the “law of parsimony,” states that…

  • Obturator sign

    Pain on inward rotation of the hip, a maneuver that stretches the obturator internus muscle. This test result may be positive in acute appendicitis.  

  • Obtunded

    Having diminished arousal and awareness, often as the result of intoxication, metabolic illness, infection, or neurological catastrophe.  

  • Sex object

    An individual regarded as being of little interest except for providing sexual pleasure.
