  • Overvalued idea

    An unreasonable and strongly held belief or idea. Such a belief is beyond the norm of beliefs held or accepted by other members of the person’s culture or subculture.  

  • Overtoe

    Hallux varus of the great toe to the extent that it rests over the other toes.  

  • Overshoot

    A response to a stimulus that is greater than would normally be expected.  

  • Overriding

    The slipping of one end of a fractured bone past the other part.  

  • Over response

    An abnormally intense reaction to a stimulus; an inappropriate degree of response.  

  • Overpressure

    A force applied passively to a joint and surrounding soft tissue at the end of the range of motion in order to determine the end feel of the tissues.  

  • Overmedication

    Side effects, drug interactions, or other potential problems that result from the excessive use or excessive prescription of medications. Overmedication is a common problem in the elderly, who may have multiple diseases and conditions and multiple health care providers.  

  • Overlaying

    The asphyxiation of an infant when a larger person lies on top of the baby and presses his or her face into the bed, preventing the infant from breathing.  

  • Psychogenic overlay

    The emotional component of a symptom or illness that has an organic basis.  

  • Overlay

    An addition superimposed upon an already existing state. A layer of any kind of nail enhancement product that is applied over the natural nail or nail and tip application for added strength.
