Trichostrongylus
A genus of nematode worms of the family Trichostrongylidae. These worms are of economic importance because of the damage they cause to domestic animals and birds.

Trichostrongyliasis
Infestation with the intestinal parasite Trichostrongylus; a rare disease in the U.S.

Trichosporosis
Infestation of the hair with Trichosporon. The condition resulting from an infestation of the Trichosporon fungus.

Trichoptilosis
The splitting of hairs at their ends, giving them a feather-like appearance.

Trichophyton violaceum
The causative agent of some forms of ringworm of the scalp, beard, or nails.

Trichophyton tonsurans
The most frequent cause of ringworm of the scalp. An imperfect fungus species that invades the skin, nails, and hair.

Trichophyton schoenleinii
The causative agent of favus of the scalp.

Trichophyton mentagrophytes
A species, one form of which, called granulare, is parasitic on several mammals including horses, dogs, and rodents and can also affect humans. Another variety, called interdigitale, is associated with tinea pedis. A type of imperfect fungi that infects the skin, nails, and hair.

Trichophytobezoar
A hairball found in the stomach or intestine composed of hair, vegetable fibers, and miscellaneous debris.

Trichophytin
An extract prepared from cultures of the fungi of the genus Trichophyton; used as an antigen for skin tests and for the treatment of certain trichophytid infections.
