Hormones produced and released by the anterior pituitary. There are ten hormones released by the anterior portion of the pituitary gland located in the brain. These hormones are growth hormone (GH or somatotropin), prolactin (PRL), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH or thyrotropin), follicle- stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), ß-lipotropin, ß-endorphin, and met-enkephalin. These hormones serve to regulate metabolism, growth, reproduction, mammary gland development, skin color, and the CNS function.
