Anastomosis

Union of one vein with another, the connection forming a network.

Surgical, traumatic, or pathologic formation of a connection between two normally separate tubular structures or organs in the body.

The surgical or pathologic connection between two vessels or tubular structures.

In anatomy, fusing of hollow, tubular structures, especially in blood vessels.

A connection made between two blood vessels or tubular structures, either naturally or by surgery.

Joining of two normally separate structures by a surgical procedure.

To connect two vessels, often blood vessels or bowel segments, to allow continuous flow.

A communication between two blood vessels without any intervening capillary network.

Direct intercommunication of the branches of two or more veins or arteries without any intervening network of capillary vessels. The term also describes the surgical joining of two hollow blood vessels, nerves or organs such as intestines to form an intercommunication.

A natural communication between two vessels; may be direct or by means of connecting channels.

A surgical technique in which the surgeon connects two segments of a hollow organ (such as a blood vessel or a section of the intestine) following the removal of a diseased or injured portion.

A vascular or tubular connection that can occur naturally or be artificially created, linking two blood vessels or tubular cavities that may or may not be naturally connected.

Natural anastomoses typically arise when small arteries connect directly to veins without passing through capillaries. These anastomoses can be observed in the skin, where they play a role in temperature regulation and assist in controlling body heat.

A surgical anastomosis is a technique employed to establish a bypass around an arterial or intestinal blockage. It is utilized to restore normal blood flow or continuity in the affected area. Surgical anastomoses are also employed to reconnect or join the severed ends of the bowel or blood vessels during surgical procedures.

Surgically connecting two arteries is known as arterial anastomosis.
