Amelia

Absence of one or more limbs from birth.


The absence of a limb from birth, or a condition in which a limb is short from birth.


A birth defect that involves the absence of one or more limbs. The absence of all four limbs is called tetramelia; nearly absent limbs, with hands or feet attached almost directly to the body, is called phocomelia. Amelia is also a psychological term for the apathy and indifference sometimes associated with psychosis.


Congenital total absence of the arms or legs due to a developmental defect. It is one of the fetal abnormalities induced by the drug thalidomide taken early in pregnancy.


This is absence of the limbs, usually a congenital defect.


Congenital absence of one or more limbs.
