Adenohypophysis

Glandular front lobe of pituitary body.


The front lobe of the pituitary gland which secretes most of the pituitary hormones.


The portion of the pituitary gland containing secretory cells responsible for releasing the hormones adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), growth hormone (GH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). The adenohypophysis makes up 80% of the pituitary gland. It is an epithelial tissue that develops from the roof of the embryonic mouth.
