Cholagogue

Is a medicinal agent which promotes the discharge of bile from the system.


Substances which increase the flow of bile by stimulating evacuation of the gall-bladder. The great majority of these act only by increasing the activity of the digestive organs, and so producing a flow of bile already stored up in the gall-bladder. Substances which stimulate the liver to secrete more bile are termed as choleretic.


A drug which encourages the production of bile.

A drug that stimulates the flow of bile from the gall bladder and bile ducts into the duodenum.
